About
CWP is a Finnish wood materials company pioneering through-coloured birch materials that combine natural beauty, lasting colour and technical performance for architecture, design and manufacturing worldwide.
Founded on Innovation
CWP’s story began with material curiosity and technical innovation.
Founder Riku Kärri, an engineer in wood technology, first developed the idea of through-colouring wood in 1999 while exploring new possibilities for wooden applications. The earliest prototype was a through-coloured stock created for a competition rifle.
Kärri continued to develop the colouring method systematically as part of a research project at Lappeenranta University of Technology. This work later became the foundation for CWP Coloured Wood Products Oy, established in 2004.
Today, the result of 22 years of dedicated product development, CWP's through-coloured wood materials are used in product designs, architecture, interior and other design projects where material quality, durability, and visual consistency matter.
Inspired by Finnish Design Heritage
The distinctive appearance of CWP's Interior Veneers reflects a long tradition of Finnish design.
Inspired by the veneer technology pioneered by world-famous Aino and Alvar Aalto and the iconic Saima parquet, later reimagined using CWP's laminated birch material, the collection continued a legacy of craftsmanship, innovation and iconic aesthetics.
Saima's timeless appeal has been recognised with several prestigious international design awards, underlining its lasting relevance and the enduring appreciation of Nordic design.
Today, the same refined visual language continues to live on in CWP's Interior Veneer collection, bringing the legacy of Finnish design into contemporary interiors.
