Scandic Helsinki Aviacongress – Interior Design by Fyra
Scandic Helsinki Aviacongress
With Emma Keränen, interior architecture and design agency Fyra
At Scandic Helsinki Aviacongress, the interior concept brings together Finnish material expertise and technology through a clear, contemporary design language. CWP Interior Veneer was selected to introduce the warmth of wood while supporting the precise and understated aesthetic envisioned by Fyra.
In this project, reconstituted veneer became part of a broader material narrative: distinctly Finnish in character, visually consistent and well suited to the custom fittings and interior surfaces throughout the hotel.
Finnish wood meets Finnish technology
For Fyra, the choice of material was closely connected to the concept behind the interior.
“In the concept, we wanted to combine Finnish wood industry expertise with Finnish technological know-how, and reconstituted veneer fitted this theme well. Reconstituted veneer brings the warmth we were looking for, together with a clear, distinctly Finnish aesthetic.”
Emma Keränen, Fyra
The veneer allowed the design team to introduce the natural character of wood in a refined and controlled way, complementing the project's clear architectural language.
Clarity, simplicity and warmth
Material choices played an important role in defining the atmosphere of the hotel. The design called for surfaces that would feel visually calm and coherent while retaining warmth and character.
“Finnish origin and a clear visual expression were important to us. Clarity, restraint and clean lines were key elements of the concept, but so was warmth.”
Emma Keränen, Fyra
CWP Interior Veneer supported this balance through its consistent appearance and distinctive wood-based expression. Two contrasting colours were used to create variation across the interior: the lighter Birchbark Stripes and the deeper Forest Night.
Consistency in custom fittings
In addition to its visual qualities, material consistency was important for the execution of the interior and its custom-made elements.
“The reconstituted veneer worked beautifully in the project’s fixed furniture and was consistent in quality.”
Emma Keränen, Fyra
This consistency helps maintain a controlled visual language across different surfaces and applications, allowing the material to become a cohesive part of the overall interior rather than an isolated decorative element.
